I have taken to Empty Nesting pretty well. My husband and I are burning up the airways and highways, taking two-man travel by storm. I have a whole new schedule now. I can’t even call it a schedule really, but I fill my days with things I want to do! Dishes and laundry never die, but going from running the dishwasher twice a day to twice a week is liberating.
Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all sunshine and roses. We’ve hit a few bumps and there are likely a few more potholes in the road ahead. We frequently catch ourselves trying to parent each other. We both suffer from over-thinking and let-me-fix-it. Mom-mode doesn’t stop just because there is no mom-ing to do. And, there has been a precipitous drop in “ask your dad” around here lately. Neither of us take orders really well and the “I think you shoulds” are going to have to stop. I think you should not offer your opinion unless I ask for it. Ha!
So we are working our way through the parts of empty nesting no one tells you about. There is no returning to BK (before kids), there is only AK (after kids). After we negotiate a few changes to the routines—garbage day has taken on a whole new meaning without the boys—everything will be just fine.
I’m really glad we like each other and that he picked me to do life with. I wouldn’t want to jump off this cliff with anybody else. What’s next?

Love y’all so big,
Marla
